Solution for aluminum die-casting industry - Marlok®

The chemical composition and the mechanical properties of MARLOK® C1650 differ completely from the traditional tool steels. MARLOK® has a very low carbon content and increased nickel, molybdenum and cobalt contents.

Excellent mechanical properties

The mechanical properties of MARLOK® make it an excellent choice for die-casting applications: high strength and impact toughness, high fracture toughness, low modulus of elasticity, good thermal conductivity and a low thermal expansion coefficient.

The alloying elements of MARLOK® favor the formation of a fully martensitic microstructure throughout large material thickness even during air cooling. Martensite is soft, only 28-32 HRC and easily machined. Hardening to the operational condition is performed by an easy, single stage, low temperature (525ºC) precipitation heat treatment. Large dies can be uniformly hardened simply by extending the treatment time.

No vacuum or special atmosphere is needed in the furnace. Because MARLOK® is not austenized and quenched as the traditional chromium hot work tool steels, distortion is minimal.
